The Cameroon generation of the 2000s will face their peers of the same era from Nigeria on Thursday, November 30, at the Limbe Omnisport stadium.
Ahead of the all-stars game, organizers have announced the sale of match tickets will be done at the outlets of telecommunications giants Orange Cameroon at varied prices, ranging from 500 FCFA -15000 FCFA.
Attending the once in a lifetime event which will revive memories of the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final is reserved only for those in possession of any category of the tickets.
The bulk of the Nigerian delegation arrived at the Douala International Airport this Tuesday and are logded in Douala before traveling to the Southwest Region.
The squad of legendary footballers who made a name for themselves will face counterparts from Cameroon as part of efforts to reunite and also reemphasize investing in Plantain and Banana agriculture to keep footballers going even upon retirement.
This friendly match to hold on the sidelines of the Plantain-Banana festival will take place on Thursday November 30, 2023.
The Cameroon players called up in the list signed by the President of the National Association of Cameroonian Footballers, Lucien Mettomo have most of the stars of the yesteryears though the likes of Geremi Njitap, Patrick Mboma and Pierre Wome are conspicuously absent.
This event reserved for retired footballers has attracted a number of top players of Nigeria’s golden generation.
Jay Jay Okocha, Tijani Babangida, Victor Ikpeba, Elderson Echijile, Taribo West amongst others of those good old days are expected to grace the event in Southwest Cameroon.
The football match is an innovation to the laudable initiative aimed at encouraging footballers to invest in large scale bananas plantation upon retirement.
Last year’s edition of the event took place in the South Region of Cameroon, but ended off the pitch.
This year’s innovation to include a match for legends has drawn praises from football stakeholders across the board, though some face difficulty in reconciling the absence of some of the big names.
