Catherine Mbengono didn’t celebrate her first goal in as many matches this Wednesday in an exciting encounter that failed to produce more goals.
Amazone FAP managed to salvage a 1-1 draw against AS Fortuna Ladies at the Omnisport Annex stadium in a delayed Guinness Super Match Day 15 which Linda Ngatchou canceled a first half strike from Catherine Mbengono.
Fortuna took the lead in additional time of the first-half thanks a lob from Mbengono and for most of the game, the newcomers seemed to be cruising along.
And immediately after the goal, the Fortuna supporters were waiting to see her celebrate the end of a long goal-drought. But sadly it never came as the striker seemed to raise her hands in apology.
This though was a bit of a shocker for both sets of fans as Mbengono did not shy away from celebrating the last time she scored.
The Cameroon international has now revealed why he chose not to celebrate after his goal his former side saying:
“I scored against my former club and decided not to celebrate out of respect. We got a point from a difficult match and we are satisfied,” Mbegono who played for FAP in 2020 before moving abroad said.
Just when everyone thought that Jean Stephane Um’s girls were about to get the security goal, Linda Ngatchou came up with a wonder-strike to ensure last season’s vice champions do not go back home empty-handed.
The draw is a relatively fair score for both sides who gave their all to deserve at least a point from the contest.
