Against the recent report that Oyem AC will represent Gabon at the UNIFFAC (Central Africa) Zonal Qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League by votes, the Federation of Gabon Football now have a new development.
The Federation last weekend issued a press release that it won’t have any representative at the Zona Qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League this year.
After four games in Group A and six games in Group B in the Gabonese LINAFEM Ligue Nationale de Football Femenin, Oyem AC and Atletico Akanda topped the table respectively.
“The difficulties of the said league in appointing a representative, due to the suspension of the national championship after only few days, the Federation has decided not to hire a representative in this edition of the Champions League 2023.” The press release from FEGAFOOT stated.
With this development, the women’s league in Gabon would have to restrategise ahead of next season in a bid to meet up with the deadline for the submission of representatives to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Nigeria was in similar situation last season but the board and clubs had to expedite and hasten the conclusion of the season with a short version of its Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six which enabled the country to submit the name of the league champions, Delta Queens to CAF on or before the deadline date of June 12, 2023.
