  • Magri has scored twice in eight appearances for Toulouse FC this season
  • The 24-year-old scored 13 goals for Bastia last season
  • He has opted to represent Cameroon and is impatient about getting started
  • He could make his debut for Cameroon against either Russia or Senegal next week

Frank Magri’s amazing year shows few signs of slowing as the forward looks to make his Cameroon debut and prove his worth to Rigobert Song with the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on the horizon.

An impressive season-long loan with Bastia in Ligue 2 saw him score 13 goals and returned to the French Ligue 1 via Toulouse FC and he hasn’t had a bad start so far.

The 24-year-old has been an ever-present this season at Toulouse with his eye-catching displays including scoring last weekend in the 3-0 win against FC Metz which has now earned a first formal Cameroon call-up.

“It is with huge joy that I am going to defend my country of origin and the country of birth of my dear mother,” the versatile forward once of SCO Angers wrote on Instagram.

Noted for his trickery and speed upfront, the forward is expected to add value to the current crop of players available for Rigobert Song.

Magri is hoping to make his debut against Russia on October 13 in Moscow or Senegal three days later in another interesting pre-AFCON friendly against the reigning African champions at Lens in France.

“I can’t wait to fight like a Lion,” the finisher with two goals in seven Ligue 1 appearances this season revealed in his post-selection reaction.

Song is yet to settle on his final squad for the AFCON, which opens the doors for Magri or any newcomer that can offer a little more than what the present crop of players have.

The uncapped Magri already appears to have a strong chance of being involved at the AFCON – an opportunity that will only be bolstered by Toulouse boss Carles Martinez Cavell by offering him game time even after the upcoming FIFA window.

Magri was born in Angan in France by a Cameroonian mother and of a French father, which provides him the latitude to represent either national teams. He has settled for his mother’s country of origin.
