FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, and CAF’s President Dr. Patrice Motsepe honored Cameroon’s Roving Ambassador and Africa’s legendary Footballer Roger Milla with a certificate of acknowledgment at the Al Janoub Stadium, on November, 25,2022.
Roger Milla’s distinction was part of the pre-game ceremony of the Group G fixture, pitting Cameroon against Switzerland.
The award was for being the oldest player to score a goal in a World Cup tournament. Milla scored at 42 years against Colombia, in the 1990 quarter-finals of the World Cup. And remains to date the oldest scorer of the 22 edition of the World Cup.
Milla’s exuberance, technique, and, of course, trademark corner-flag dance made him one of the most joyful and inspirational players in the history of the game.
Explaining why he started dancing a few steps of Makossa (a Cameroonian musical style) to celebrate his goals, he said it was in no way pre-planned: “God guided me to the corner flag to celebrate like that with all the people who have supported me throughout my career.
