Amid search for a new coach by the Ivorian Football Federation leading to their contact of French Football Federation for the services of Herve Renard, the request now have a new twist.
The French Football Federation (FFF) has rejected the Ivorian Football Federation’s request to allow Hervé Renard to handle the national team until the end of the AFCON 2023 tournament.
It was reported that the Cote d’Ivoire Football Federation wanted Renard who is in charge of the French senior women’s national team to take charge of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) host till the end of the tournament.
This is coming after a lacklustre performance by the Elephants in the groups stage of the tournament with three points leaving the team qualifying for the Round of 16 via the best third place finish.
The termination of the contract of Jean Louis Gasset led to Emerse Fae taking charge on interim basis.
Since then, there has being a desperate search for a world class coach by the Ivorian Football Federation in a bid to turn the tide of the team bad showing so far.
With the rejection of Renard’s offer, Fae is expected to take charge of the remaining AFCON 2023 games as the host prepare to face holder, Senegal in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, as part of the preparation for the Senegal Vs Ivory Coast match, Coach Emerse Fae and his players trained on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Lycée Technique de Cocody.
The focus is to forget the team’s 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea and aim at beating Senegal in the knockout stage.
