The Cameroon football federation, FECAFOOT, is expected to receive over 5 billions FCFA from the world football governing body FIFA, as funds for FIFA Forward 3.0 investment in football development.
The FIFA FORWARD 3.0 will be launched this January 2023, with the aim of providing a more comprehensive funding and support of football development projects across the world than ever before.
All 211 member associations will benefit from FIFA FORWARD support, with Cameroon expected to receive 8 million US Dollars to finance its projects and support its operational cost.
The FIFA FORWARD 3.0 program will run for a four years cycle until 2026, and has witnessed a big increase in funding, compared to the 3.9 Million US Dollars allocated in 2016 when the project was launched by FIFA president, Gianni Infantino.
The Solidarity payments to member associations have increased seven-fold in seven years. The increased financial backing for football’s foundations is a direct result of strengthened governance of the new FIFA.
Obtaining FIFA Forward funds is subject to compliance with several criteria, in particular the organization at national and/or regional level of women’s football, youth football and beach soccer competitions, or the presentation of a project to build a football infrastructure. In Cameroon, all these activities have gradually emerged under the mandates of Seidou Mbombo Njoya and are currently continuing under the leadership of Samuel Eto’o.
According to FIFA, a significant element of the investment will support FIFA’s goal of having 60 million female players participating in football worldwide by the end of the coming cycle.
“When we launched the FORWARD development programme, FIFA embarked upon a new era of global football development that is now heading into its third cycle. It is vital that we are now strengthening our commitment to building a stronger foundation for the growth of football”, said FIFA President Gianni Infantino, via fifa.com.
“We have increased this funding seven-fold but our revenues are not increased seven-fold; just that at the new FIFA since 2016 money goes where it has to go and that is back into football”, Infantino added.
As with the previous editions of the programme, a contract of agreed objectives will be finalised through FORWARD 3.0 between FIFA and each member association or confederation that will lay the foundations for the impactful and tailored development of football.
