Exclusive: FECAFOOT summons emergency meeting to look into Marc Brys’ file

The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has summoned an executive committee meeting this Monday, August 19 to look into events related to the trending interview granted by Indomitable Lions’ head coach Marc Brys late last week.

Kick442.com understands the members of FECAFOOT Exco have received notification about the virtual meeting without an agenda though the affair is expected to be the main subject of interest.

The social media has been flooded with comments from the Belgian gaffer talking down on the management style adopted by president Samuel Eto’o Fils of FECAFOOT.

Brys’ interview extensively presents some of the problems plaguing the national team since Eto’o became president of the football body. Unearthing how the former Barcelona and Inter Milan star had more than the minimum required access to the team plus how he influenced decisions especially in the Rigobert Song era.

The feedback to this from the federation related persons have highlighted the sentiments of the institution and it’s president vis-a-vis the interview granted by the 64-year-old in his native Belgium.

In the court of public opinion, there is a divide of the football family. Eto’o critics have defended Brys’comments while agreeing he was strong worded in his outing but insisting to be shown the lie in all he said. Eto’o fanatics on their part, have clinged unto the nationalistic argument – stating a foreigner can’t talk down on a national legend as Brys has done even if he is at fault. Strange but real stands as it’s the case most often than not these days in Cameroon football.

Though there have been doubters about whether Brys granted the interview or not, his silence and failure to react even in the national team staff Watssap group has increased believe that the words came from him.

Now, FECAFOOT Exco members are set to meet and deliberate on the situation, with close associates revealing that interview could mark an end for Marc Brys as Eto’o could be on the verge of rubber-stamping the move to show him the door again.

Former Intermediate national team coach, Martin Ndtoungo Mpile heavily-linked to the position even before the confirmation of the departure of the Belgian gaffer. The National Institute of Youth and Sports (INJS) veteran previously occupied the role of interim coach when Brys was first sacked in March before being reinstated.

Brys, the government-preferred coach of the national team hasn’t been on the good books of Eto’o’s executive at FECAFOOT. Their public spat earlier this year spoke volume of the unfriendly nature of their work-induced friendship standing on the delicate foundation of the  Indomitable Lions.

The Indomitable Lions will return to the den next month to prepare for match day one and two matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Namibia and Kenya. By then Cameroon may have a fourth national team coach in less than three years of Samuel Eto’o Fils at the helm of FECAFOOT.

It should be noted that, Hugo Broos, Cameroon’s previous Belgian gaffer entered a phase of very frosty relationship with Cameroon Football authorities after he poured a can of worms back in 2017 following logistics challenges that resulted to what was famously described as the ‘Brussels Gate’. The main difference between Brys and Broos is that former has the government on side while the latter lost both the government and FECAFOOT support even after winning the AFCON.
