- The MTN Elite One championship will kick-off in late September
- The second championship will resume a few weeks after the primary championship
- Both championships will be played in a renewed one stream format for the first time since 2018
The 2024/25 MTN Elite One and Two championships kick-off dates have been set by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
kick442.com has learned from inside sources that the new season in the top-flight championship will get underway on September 28 while the the second tier championship will have its first ball rolling on October 12.
The previous top-flight championship season ended in April this year, with Victoria United FC emerging champions a few weeks after the end of the Elite Two championship.
The new 16-club MTN Elite One championship has been affected by delays to schedule the 2024 Cup of Cameroon final between Colombe of Dja and Lobo and Aigle Royal of Menoua.
For the coming season, 15 clubs will battle Victoria United FC in the race to MTN Elite One glory and continental football reserved for the national champions in the league and Cup.
Panthere of Nde and Aigle Royal of Moungo will be the newcomers in the top-flight when the new campaign gets underway. Aigle Royal of Moungo emerged champions of the last Elite Two championship to return to the top-flight for the first time in 24 years while Panthere via their runners-up status came back after three years away.
In the build up to the new season, clubs have been charged to meet a number of formalities. So far there has been a timid response from clubs vis-a-vis these formalities with some sections of the stakeholders claiming FECAFOOT’s unilateral approach to policies hasn’t helped implementation by clubs.
