Erithrea have pulled out of the race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification race due to an undisclosed reason.
The country’s football federation made the announcement on Tuesday, October 31st, thus extending number of years without a competitive international game.
The East African nation was supposed to compete with Zambia, Congo, Tanzania, Niger and 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinalist Morocco.
Erithrea was supposed to open their qualifier campaign next month against Morocco and Congo, but that is now off.
The decision to pull out leaves Group E with five nations to compete with for a spot in the three-nation hosts FIFA World Cup.
Erithrea’s last international game was in September 2019, a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier game against Namibia.
It is hoped that the Red Sea Boys will be back in competition in the nearest future.
