  • AWCON 2008 & 2012 champions, Equatorial Guinea are a step close to a return to the competition
  • The conqueror of Namibia in the previous round has advance to the final round of the AWCON 2024 qualifier

The Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea have advanced to the second and final round of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) following Libya’s decision to abandon the competition.

The Libyan football federation recently closed a training camp and announced their decision to pull out of the competition after floods hit the country and caused over 6000 deaths.

Benghazi, which was supposed to host the second-leg game on September 25 has been heavily affected by the floods, thus explaining the decision.

The situation means the two-time AWCON champions advance to the next round of the qualifier.

They will face the winner between Benin and DR Congo in the final round of the qualification between November 27 and December 5, 2023.

Equatorial Guinea are hoping to return to the AWCON picture after missing out during the 2022 edition in Morocco.
