Cameroonian sprinter Emmanuel Eseme has qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 100m event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Eseme clocked a time of 9.98 seconds in the heats, joining U.S. sprinters Noah Lyles and Marvin Bracy in going sub-10.
The 30-year-old Eseme has been in impressive form this season, winning the African Championships and the Francophone Games. He recently stunned a strong field that included Canadian Andre De Grasse and Jamaican Yohan Blake to win the 100m at the Diamond League meeting in Marrakech.
Eseme is making his Olympic debut in Paris after missing out on previous editions. He will be looking to continue his giant-killing run in the semi-finals and potentially the final, where he could become Cameroon’s first Olympic medalist in the men’s 100m.
The fastest overall time was posted by the United States’ Kenneth Bednarek and Fred Kerley (both 9.97), Eseme placed fourth.Reigning world champion Lyles was the 12th fastest overall (10.04)
The men’s 100m semi-finals and final will take place on August 3-4 at the Stade de France. Eseme will face stiff competition from the likes of Lyles, Bracy, and De Grasse, but his recent performances suggest he has the potential to cause an upset and write his name in the history books.
