Equatorial Guinea Nzalang National captain and striker, Emilio Nsue has won the Puma Golden Boot Award of the just ended 34th edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations competition held in Cote D’Ivoire. The former Apollon Limassol player grabbed the award after emerging top scorer of the competition.
The Intercity player scored 5 goals to power the underdogs Equatorial Guinea into the round of 16 in the competition.
Nsue scored a hat trick in a 4#2 win against Guinea-Bissau. It was the first hat trick at the Africa Cup of Nations in 16 years and Nsue became the oldest player ever to do so.
Nsue also scored twice as Equatorial Guinea upset Cote D’Ivoire 4#0 and left the host nation on the brink of elimination.
Emilio Nsue’s five goals doest meet the 8 goals scored by Vincent Aboubakar who won the Golden Boot during the last tournament in Cameroon.
Worthy to note that the award is called Puma Golden Boot because the it has a special prize from Puma that joined CAF in the build up to this event as sponsor.
Emilio Nsue joins the list of numerous past winners of the golden boot amongst them Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo, Junior Kabananga of DR Congo and Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar.
