With a perfect record so far at the 2024 West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in Cote D’Ivoire, Emem Essien who is Edo Queens leading goal scorer at the tournament hope her team can win the title.
The Nigerian champions will face host, Inter FC from Abidjan in the semi final on Tuesday.
Ahead of the last four clash, Essien is confident of a positive result.
“It might not be easy though but we believe when we play together and we can win. Everything on our mind is to win. We believe we can overcome them.” She said.
“My prediction is 3-0 or 4-0 win for us. It is possible.”
With 12 goals scored and a goal conceded, the Benin City based side ended the group stage as Group B winners with a maximum of nine points and defeated maiden champions, Hasaacas Ladies from Ghana 3-0 en route reaching the semi final.
“I feel happy. We are prepared for any team that is coming our way. That is our mindset.” She continued.
“The team play, discipline, and mindset are working well for us.”
With three goals so far, Essien is looking forward to winning individual awards apart from winning the title while she also applauded the Edo State government for their support.
“That is always my dream to end the campaign as the highest goal scorer and most valuable player of the tournament.
“The Governor and the government are really trying in supporting us. We need the support which the government are really giving to us and we thank them for that.” She concluded.
This will be Edo Queens first appearance at the tournament and hope to replicate the feat of Bayelsa Queens which won the tournament in their first appearance in 2022.
