Talikong Elwood’s rise continued in emphatic fashion as the young forward scored his first Elite One goal to help PWD Bamenda claim a 2–1 victory over Cotonsport Garoua at the Bamenda I Proximity Stadium. On Match Day Eight, the former Elite Two marksman announced himself on the big stage with a decisive contribution in front of an ecstatic home crowd.
PWD burst out of the blocks, taking the lead in the seventh minute through Ngufor Terence after a sharp attacking move caught Cotonsport off guard. Three minutes later, Elwood seized his moment. The forward reacted quickest inside the penalty area in the 10th minute to double the advantage, finishing with composure to register a landmark strike in Cameroon’s top flight.
For Elwood, the goal was the latest step in a steady progression. Last season, he finished as top scorer for ISOHSA in Elite Two, underlining his eye for goal before making the jump to the top tier. Prior to that, he honed his craft at Kamjo Sports Academy, where his attacking instincts first drew attention. His transition to Elite One has now been crowned with a breakthrough goal that reflects both patience and development.
Cotonsport, drawing on their experience, responded after the break and reduced the deficit in the 71st minute through Jean François Manguele, setting up a tense finale. The visitors pressed for an equaliser, but PWD defended with discipline, with Elwood continuing to contribute beyond his attacking duties.
At the final whistle, the Abakwa Boys celebrated a valuable victory against one of the league’s traditional powerhouses. Yet beyond the three points, the night belonged to Talikong Elwood — a former Elite Two top scorer for ISOHSA whose first goal in the top flight may well signal the beginning of an even bigger chapter in his promising career.
