Record champions Cotonsport Garoua continued their strong start to the MTN Elite One season with a narrow 1–0 victory over Fauve Azur Elite on Match Day Five at the Roumde Adjia Annex in Garoua.
The decisive moment came shortly after the restart when Ahmadou Ahidjo struck in the 49th minute, converting what proved to be the only goal of a tightly contested encounter. Cotonsport managed the game professionally thereafter, limiting Fauve Azur’s attacking threats while protecting their slender advantage.
Since the arrival of head coach David Pagou just before the start of the campaign, Cotonsport have remained unbeaten — a clear sign of renewed stability and ambition from the multiple-time champions. Pagou’s tactical discipline has restored defensive solidity to a side eager to reclaim domestic dominance.
Ahmadou Ahidjo once again proved decisive. The forward has now scored crucial goals in important fixtures this season, underlining his growing importance in Cotonsport’s attacking setup.
The victory moves Cotonsport to fourth place in the standings with nine points from five matches, keeping them firmly within touching distance of early leaders PWD Bamenda, who top the table with 12 points. With Dynamo Douala and Gazelle also ahead on 10 points, the title race is already shaping into a competitive contest.
For record champions Cotonsport, the unbeaten run under Pagou signals a return to consistency. While the performances may not yet be flamboyant, the results suggest that Garoua’s giants are quietly rebuilding momentum in pursuit of another league crown.
