The Democratic Republic of Congo have announced it’s bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2029.

The announcement was made recently by the DR Congo President, H.E Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi.

“I aim to promote the DRC’s candidacy for AFCON 2029 in the Democratic Republic of Congo”, he announced.

DR Congo is one of AFCON major participant, having participated in 19 editions of all AFCON tournaments. They are also one of the most successful teams in Africa, having won the titles twice in 1968 as Congo-Kinshasa and 1974 as Zaire. Since then, their best result since 1974 was third place in 1998 and 2015.

DR Congo has never hosted the tournament before and if their bid goes through, then it will be the first time the country will be hosted Africa’s biggest football jamboree.
