DR Congo’s M’Sichana picked up a resounding 4-1 win against their Congolese rivals AC Colombe on match day three of the ongoing Women’s CAF Champions League preliminaries for UNIFFAC nations.
Goals from Deborah Boleki Tomole, Kgalebane Mohlakoana, Tekonzi Faustine and a late strike from Elena Obono ensured coach Sarah Kitenge’s team recovered from the early surprise of conceding from a Fatoumata Ndiaye strike to win comfortably at the Estadio de Malabo.
M’Sichana entered the derby clash hoping to react to leading twice and not winning in their last game while Colombe that had a more complete team from the first outing was seeking a better performance from their 5-0 bashing.
The early moments of the game were cagey as both sides attempted to break down the defensive set up in use for the day.
The first real chance of the game fell to former Equatorial Guinea international Fatoumata Ndiaye in the 26th minute and she pounced – driving home a bullet header from a set piece delivery to make it 1-0 for Colombe.
M’Sichana pushed and attempted an immediate reaction but on two occasions the final ball into the box led them down.
Colombe’s hopes of preserving the lead till the pause were dashed away when Deborah Boleki equalized from the penalty spot.
The second segment was a complete one way traffic as coach Sarah Kitenge’s team turned on the screw and stamped their authority to secure all three points.
Kgalebane put M’Sichana ahead 13 minutes into the second segment then two late goals from Tekonzi Faustine and Elena Obono ensured the DR Congo side bagged home all three points and the bragging rights from the derby.
Referee Ntangti Innocentia’s final whistle sparked joyous scenes from the M’Sichana bench as not only did they get their first win but young coach Sarah Kitenge who won the CAF Champions League last year as a player had picked up her first win as a coach.
The win leaves M’Sichana with slight hopes of still qualifying. Their chances depend on FC Ebolowa faltering against Colombe and playing a draw against Agosto while they win against Elecsport of Ndjamena.
