When Daouda Kamilou announced his retirement, many thought it was the final chapter of one of the most decorated strikers to grace the Cameroonian leagues.
Yet, like all great forwards, he refused to fade quietly. The Nigerien striker, at 37 years old, returned to competitive football with Mintack FC du Septentrion during the 2025 National Interpools, and he has proven beyond doubt that class is permanent.
Kamilou has been nothing short of sensational, scoring four goals so far in the competition, three of which came from the bench. His impact has been clinical and efficient: three goals from just eight touches in two games underline his lethal instinct in front of goal. Few strikers, young or old, can boast of such ruthlessness.
Mintack Septentrion, powered by Kamilou’s resurgence, currently boasts the best attack in the tournament with seven goals. A significant 42% of those strikes have come from the perfect understanding between Kamilou and Hamid Papangtigui. All three of Kamilou’s goals in open play have been assisted by Hamid, a partnership that has become one of the highlights of this year’s Interpools.
His return has been marked by decisive performances. On Match Day Two, he sealed a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against Epervier Ebolowa with an 82nd-minute strike at the CAF Excellence Center in Mbankomo. Then on Match Day Three, Kamilou came off the bench to score a brace within seven minutes, guiding Mintack to a 4-2 victory over AS Ntoung Ngouong.
Beyond the goals, his presence has brought leadership and confidence to the squad. “I am here to help the team,” Kamilou said modestly, but his performances have shown he is doing much more than that, he is carrying Mintack’s hopes with every touch of the ball.
For fans of the Cameroon leagues, his story is a reminder that legends never truly retire. Daouda Kamilou is not just proving he still has the hunger; he is redefining what longevity looks like in football. And as the Interpools progress, one thing is certain: defenses will continue to fear the name Kamilou.
