Former Cameroon international Daniel Jules Oscar Wansi has died in his home in the nation’s capital, Yaoundé at the age of 42.
Wansi, one-time Olympic Lions’ playmaker made the journey of no return on Thursday, August 1. Family sources revealed and the reputable Journalists Fils Daniel Injeck and Njie Enow Ebai confirmed the dreadlocks hairstyle star had completed his journey on earth.
“One of Cameroon’s 🇨🇲 most exciting dribblers Daniel Wansi “Marimar” has passed away, aged 42.
“A prolific player, “Marimar” burst unto the scene playing for Cintra & grabbed the headlines at the 2001 Cameroon Cup final scoring a brace for them as they lost Fovu. A star is gone!,” reference Sports Reporter, Njie Enow Ebai wrote on X(former Twitter).
The ‘magician, who first appeared in the eyes of Cameroon football lovers via Cintra of Yaoundé in 2001, winning the young player of the year award (Crack D’Or) at 19 abd went on to win the All African games with Cameroon’s U-23 team in 2003 quits the stage way to early.
Talented Marimar as he was nicknamed played for ES Sahel, NK Inker Zaprešić in the Croatian top-flight, German side, Dynamo Dresden, Shenzhen Kingway, RAEC Mons amongst others in a promising career that saw him return to Cintra in 2010 before moving to Egypt for a brief spell at El Gouna after which he retired in 2012.
We understand the Yaoundé native who has been into business since his retirement though he had been battling with illness in the past months before giving up the ghost on August 1.
His demise has left the Cameroon Football family in shock and contestation as many punder the early departure while others discuss his greatness.
Wansi is the third Cameroon international to depart this world in the past month. He follows Sampson Che who he played against in the 2001 Cup of Cameroon final and Landry Nguemo TSAFACK who died last month.
