Captain Randy Ntube Kwalar of Colombe of Dja scored a late penalty to secure a 2-1 win against nine-man and coach-less Atlantic of Kribi in the semi-final of the 2025 Cup of Cameroon on Wednesday at the FECAFOOT Technical Center in Odza.
The South derby win puts Colombe in the running to join the likes of Canon Yaounde and Cotonsport kf Garoua as back-to-back winners of the Cup of Caneroon and can seal the double this term.
Though it ended well the 2-1 derby win against their fellow southerners wasn’t an easy one but all the care about now is to be in the running to win prestigious Cup of Cameroon this season and stake a claim for their first ever domestic double whenever the State and the country’s football federation schedules it.
Colombe edged Aigle Royal of Menoua in last year’s final to secure their first-ever cup triumph. They will battle it out against Panthere from the West Region as well this time around. Panthere popularly known as the Nzui Manto confirmed their place in the final following their narrow 1-0 against record champions, Canon Yaounde in the other semi-final game played earlier in Douala.
It wasn’t all rosy though the Cup holders eventually made it to the final. Atlantic of Kribi had dreamt of a continuation of their fairytale run in the competition this term when they scored the opener via Batossi just 20 minutes into the start of the game.
The second tier side dreaming to become another of a rare non top-flight club to reach the Cup of Cameroon final lost head coach Dieudonne Nke via a red card issued to him by Ndanga Moundi just three minutes after the interval. That sending off changed the dynamics of the game.
Atlantic that finished fourth in the MTN Elite Two playoffs was pegged back at the 49th minute when Severin Rodrigue Onana scored for Colombe.
The game looked even and headed to a tight finale until the moment Wilson Ngangue of Altlantic was sent off following a second bookable offense just around the center circle.
Just a minute after the incident, Colombe won a debatable penalty that was converted by Randy to ensure another appointment in the final.
Armand Milol of Atlantic compounded their second-half woes when he was sent off in the 90th minute of the game.
The last minutes of the game were played in bad temper especially from the frustrated Atlantic players who had lost it all in the second segment and were reduced to nine without their head coach.
At the blast of the final whistle at the FECAFOOT Technical Center in Odza, Colombe celebrated as they had joined the rare class of teams that qualified for back-to-back Cup of Cameroon finals.
The South Doves if coach Richard Towa and Ndongo Emma will face Panthere of Nde in another pulsating meeting in the weeks ahead. This barely weeks after suffering a defeat to the same opponent that finished behind them and in second place in the MTN Elite One Championship.
