Defending champions, Colombe Sportive stayed on course to defend their crown with a solid 2-0 win over PWD Bamenda in the round of 16 played at the Omnisport Annex 1 Stadium on Sunday July 13.
It was a tight contest until the 75th minute when Patrick Evouna finally broke the deadlock, giving Colombe the lead with a composed finish. PWD threw bodies forward in search of an equaliser, but were punished deep into stoppage time as Loemba put the result beyond doubt with a second goal in the 90+4 minute.
In goal, Idrissou Nfor Finia was once again unbeatable. The Colombe shot stopper made it nine straight clean sheets in the Cameroon Cup, a record run, and brought his season tally to 19 shutouts across all competitions.
In Melong, Racing and Royal FC de Nka’a played out a cagey affair with neither side managing to break the deadlock over 90 minutes. With the game heading to penalties, it all came down to who could hold their nerve from the spot. Racing edged it 5-4 in the shootout, squeezing through to the quarterfinals after a goalless draw in regulation time.
At the Bertoua Municipal Stadium, Mintack de Septentrion got the job done against Fauve Azur with a comfortable 2-0 victory. Goals from Guynho and Alidou gave Mintack control of the match, while Fauve Azur’s woes were compounded by a red card to star man Juste Les Bonheur Koulou, reducing them to ten men and effectively ending any hope of a comeback.
Canon Yaoundé turned on the style in front of their home crowd, dismantling Chamba SA 7-0 in a one-sided affair. The hosts came flying out of the blocks, with Paul Henri Tchikeu opening the scoring as early as the 2nd minute. Canon ran riot from there, with Claude Balla, Jean Oussama, Franck Belobo, Evrad Beyong, Emmanuel Minkoulou, and Junior Ebogo all getting on the scoresheet. It was a ruthless attacking display from the Yaoundé giants, who never took their foot off the gas.
In other results, Apejes swept aside Aigle de Moungo with a 3-1 win, while Aigle de Menoua also progressed with a 3-1 victory over Rizière de Noun. Atlantic SA edged Gazelle FA 1-0 in a highly controversial contest, and Panthère scraped past US Abong-Mbang with a 2-1 result to book their place in the next round.
