Captain Geneviève Owona affirms FC Ebolowa’s Readiness to Make a Statement in 2025 UNIFFAC WCL Prelims

Captain Genevieve Owona of FC Ebolowa has declared herself and her mates are confident and ready to leave a strong impression when the 2025 UNIFFAC Women’s CAF Champions League begins next week in Malabo.

​Owona spoke of the confidence in camp amongst others when the kick442.com team made a stop by preparation camp and captain Geneviève Owona expressed the energy within after their recent 2-2 draw against the U17 boys of Agora FC.

“It’s been a week of preparation, it wasn’t easy,” she said. “But we are satisfied with the result. It was a good final test for us.”

Owona’s words echoed the team’s palpable determination. “The team’s spirit is in great shape,” she declared.

“We are going to Malabo to make a statement, and we are ready.” She highlighted the deep-rooted cohesion within the squad, which has remained intact despite some players being away with the national team.

“The fact that some of our team mates are in the national team camp doesn’t impact the group’s unity,” Owona added.

“We’ve trained together and played in the Guinness Super League together. We know each other very well.”

Per Owona, the UNIFFAC tournament represents a new level of challenge, one that the team is eager to embrace.

“The UNIFFAC tournament is a step above our championship,” she affirmed. “We are preparing with a calm and focused mindset, following all the coaches’ instructions.”

With their mindset and team spirit firmly in place, Geneviève Owona and her colleagues are ready to face the challenge and compete on the African stage.

The FC Ebolowa contingent will jet off to Malabo on Monday and continue preparations ahead of the tournament opener on September 19.

The participating teams have been officially designated as follows: the host country, Equatorial Guinea, has been automatically assigned the designation A1 and will be represented by 15 Agosto de Akonibe Femenino. The other participating teams are Football Académie M’SICHANA from the DRC (A2), FC Ebolowa Filles from Cameroon (A3), Tout Puissant Elect-Sport Féminin de Ndjamena from Chad (A4), and Amical Club Colombe from Congo (A5).

The match days are scheduled as follows:

– Match Day 1: September 17, 2025 (A1 vs. A4 and A2 vs. A3)
– Match Day 2: September 20, 2025 (A3 vs. A1 and A5 vs. A2)
– Match Day 3: September 23, 2025 (A1 vs. A5 and A4 vs. A3)
– Match Day 4: September 26, 2025 (A5 vs. A3 and A2 vs. A4)
– Match Day 5: September 29, 2025 (A1 vs. A2 and A4 vs. A5)

With its well-planned schedule and competitive format, the Women’s CAF Champions League, Malabo 2025 Zonal Tournament is set to be a major highlight of the football calendar this year.

As Owona’s FC Ebolowa and other teams prepare to face off, football fans from across the region are eagerly anticipating the tournament, as it promises to be an exciting month.
