  • Cameroon’s national football team, the Indomitable Lions, faces a setback as newcomers Raoul Danzabe and James Eto’o are ruled out of the match against Cape Verde due to injuries.
  • The young talents were poised for their international debut, with Danzabe showing promise in Qatar’s Stars League and Eto’o as a mainstay in Bulgaria’s top league.
  • Their absence, along with that of Yvan Neyou and Jean Charles Castelleto, challenges coach Marc Brys’s squad selection ahead of FIFA’s 26-player limit for the stage.

Raoul Danzabe and James Eto’o will miss the upcoming match for the Indomitable Lions against Cape Verde due to injuries.

Danzabe, a 19-year-old midfielder for Qatari FC, and Eto’o, a 23-year-old defensive midfielder for Botev Plovdiv, were both set to make their international debut for Cameroon but will now have to wait for a future opportunity.

Danzabe, who transitioned from AS Fortuna, has made an impact in the Qatar Stars League with 17 appearances, scoring twice and providing an assist. Eto’o has been a consistent presence in his club’s season, featuring in 31 games in the top league.

The extent of their injuries, affecting Danzabe’s knee and Eto’o’s right foot, has not been disclosed, nor has their expected recovery time. However, it is confirmed that they will not be part of the squad facing Cape Verde this Saturday.

They join the list of sidelined players, including Yvan Neyou and Jean Charles Castelleto. Neyou, suffering from a thigh injury, expressed his disappointment and support for the team on his instagram page,

stating, “Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in the Indomitable Lions gathering due to thigh discomfort. I am the first disappointed, but I send all my strength to my teammates, the staff, and the Cameroon supporters. Go Lions!”

While injuries are unfortunate, especially at this crucial stage, they may inadvertently assist coach Marc Brys in finalizing his squad selection.

FIFA regulations permit only 26 players for the stage, and these developments could narrow down the choices for the final team roster.
