Cameroon’s Transport Minister, Jean Ernest Messena Ngalle Bibehe, has responded decisively to the tragic demise of ex-Cameroon international, Landry Nguemo Tsafack.
Last Wednesday, Nguemo was involved in a serious road accident when his car collided with a truck along the Ebebda-Yaounde road, resulting in the loss of his life and that of his driver.
The incident has evoked widespread sympathy across the nation, prompting authorities to diligently investigate and get those responsible for the accident.
Minister Ngalle Bibehe whose team has been on the case since it happened has delivered the first set lf firm measures in response to this tragedy.
In a release issued by the minister on Saturday, the driver of the truck identified as Kana Sa’a Michel faces severe consequences for his actions. His driver’s license has been revoked, and he is suspended from driving for a period of five years. Michel is accused of excessive speed and dangerous overtaking, which led to the tragic outcome.
Jodelle Falonne Menne, the owner of the truck, is not spared. Her transport license has been suspended for three months. This indicates that the minister holds the truck company accountable for its role in the accident.
The vehicle directly involved in the accident will be withdrawn from circulation for one year. Additionally, all vehicles operated under Menne’s license will be immobilized for three months. Before the restriction is lifted, these vehicles must meet specific conformity requirements.
This measures comes three days after the Cameroon football community was struck of Nguemo’s passing. Landry Nguemo was a prominent figure in African football. Born on November 28, 1985, in Yaounde, Cameroon, he made significant contributions both at the club level and internationally.
Nguemo began his professional career with AS Nancy in France, where he showcased his midfield prowess. His tenacity, vision, and ability to control the game caught the attention of football enthusiasts. Later, he joined Celtic FC in Scotland, becoming a key player in their midfield. His performances earned him recognition and respect from fans and teammates alike.
Nguemo’s journey continued with Girondins de Bordeaux in Ligue 1. He played a crucial role in their midfield, helping the team achieve success in domestic and European competitions.
Nguemo proudly represented Cameroon’s national team, the Indomitable Lions. His combative style and tactical awareness made him an essential part of the squad. He participated multiple Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments, contributing to Cameroon’s journey to the final in 2008 in Ghana.
His ex team mate and close friend Alexander Song has launched a tournament in memory of the late player, set to run between July and August.
