The Cameroonian Association of Football Referees (ACAF) Littoral branch has confirmed the receipt of the promised 10 million FCFA in bonuses. This welcome news comes after a period of tension and uncertainty.
The President of ACAF expressed his gratitude to Samuel Eto’o, President of FECAFOOT, and the Comex members residing in the Littoral region for their prompt action.
Referees had taken a firm stance, refusing to officiate any games until their outstanding bonuses were paid. Following intense discussions with football authorities, including national President Samuel Eto’o and other executive committee members, an agreement was reached.
The referees will receive the promised amount in two installments. The first installment is due by Friday, June 21st, and the second by Monday. With this resolution, they have resumed their duties, ensuring that matches proceed smoothly.
Mind you, the situation escalated during the regional league’s second round when referees boycotted day 3 matches, leading to postponements. However, their solidarity and flexibility played a crucial role in reaching a positive outcome. The President of ACAF emphasized their vital contribution to maintaining the integrity of football associations and competitions.
In addition to bonus payments, the Littoral Regional Football League (LRFL) is now tasked with preventing further delays in referee payments throughout the competition, including the upcoming mini interpools.
As the league strives to complete the second round before the mini interpools, the National Bureau has set July 1st as the start date for the 2024 national interpools. However, with the Littoral region still in the return phase of the championship, uncertainty remains about whether its representative will be ready before the July 1st start date.
