- Cameroonian midfielder Samuel Oum Gouet, formerly with Yverdon Sport FC in Switzerland, is currently on trial with TSV Hartberg in Austria
- The 26-year-old hopes to secure a spot in the Austrian first division after a challenging season marked by injuries
- If successful, this would be his second stint in Austrian football since 2021
Cameroonian international Samuel Oum Gouet is reportedly undergoing trials with TSV Hartberg, a club in the Austrian first division. The 26-year-old’s contract with Swiss side Yverdon Sport FC recently expired after a season marked by injuries, during which he played only seven league games.
Oum, once a regular for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, faced a challenging year, missing out on the Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup qualifiers due to limited playing time. Now, with the opportunity at Hartberg, he could return to Austria for the first time since 2021.
Hartberg, aiming to strengthen their midfield, hopes to secure Oum’s signature. The team finished fifth last season with 28 points, trailing the top spot by 16 points. Founded in 1946, Hartberg has yet to win the Austrian Bundesliga, but their recruitment efforts signal ambition.
If all goes well, Hartberg will become Oum’s fourth club and his second in Austria. The Cameroonian midfielder began his career at Apejes of Mfou in Cameroon’s top flight before moving to Sportclub Rheindorf Altach from 2017 to 2021. During his four-year stint with Altach, he made 99 appearances before receiving an offer from KV Mechelen.
Between 2021 and 2023 at KV Mechelen, Oum featured in just 40 games, with his lowest playing time recorded during his tenure at Yverdon Sport FC, where he played 558 minutes. His last appearance dates back to December 2023.
A change of environment and increased game time could pave the way for Oum’s return to the national team under Marc Brys, the Cameroon national team coach.
