  • Lekie Filles showcased their class via Tiwa Melong in a complete demolishing of Caiman in what was the biggest result of the weekend
  • In all, the 12 clubs scored 19 goals with four winning at home and the rest on the road.
  • The resumption marks the end of a long unwanted break for players that lasted over eight months

Defending champions, FC Ebolowa, Lekie Filles, Eclair of Sa’a and Authentic Ladies that finished last season in the top four of the Guinness Super League resumed in style last weekend as they put their opponents to the salt to secure their first win of the season though in tough fixtures.

19 goals were scored across six matches as four clubs won at home and two won away from home. The newcomers Vision FC and Cyclone fell to experienced sides FAP and Authentic Ladies respectively.

In the opening game of the season, the defending champions FC Ebolowa were held by host Ita Mbong in Bamenda for close to an hour but Reyna Meyegue and Ornella Beulou scored in the 51st and 80th minutes to ensure it was a winning start for coach Oudou Kpoumie and his team.

Caiman Filles FC of Douala continued the same way they comported themselves for the best part of last season, losing 4-0 at home to last season’s deputy champions Lekie Filles showcased their attacking poweress. Nicole Ndjock P, Tiwa Lys Melong, Mekuko and Nikita scored in a commanding first-half display to continue Lekie’s strong start to the season a week after winning the Cup of Cameroon a week after coach Stephane Ndzana’s won the Super Cup.

Éclair Filles FC conceded an early Ghislaine Nkou goal before Lema Nkoussa, Sema and Samira Mindou scored to complete the comeback win for the ladies from Sa’a and coach Francis Koloko.

Dja Sports Academy in their second season took their chances and scored via Louise Larissa Wehiong and Manuela Bakehe to continue the exposure of the Awa Filles decline which has been on for over a year. The former champions barely beat the drop last season in and have started in an almost similar manner.

Despite the absence of their entire technical crew on the bench, Authentic Filles FC narrowly-edged newcomers Cyclone Filles in a hotly-contested Littoral derby that was decided in the last 15 minutes. Kalelo Mexes, Suzy Mbiandji and substitute Eyong Sharee were the scorers for the winners while their city rivals got their goals via Ernestine and Divawissa.

The results leaves Lekie Filles apart as the early pacesetters while FC Ebolowa, Eclair, FAP complete the top four with a plus two goal difference.

The next round of matches will be played this weekend in grounds across the country.
