Cameroon: Northwest selection crowned champions of maiden Youth Cup

The North West  Regional selection of footballers have been crowned champions of the first ever edition of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) U-18 youth cup in the Samuel Eto’o era.

The collection of players from across different U-18  teams in the region defeated their North counterparts on post-match 4-3 penalties on Saturday after both sides had played a 1-1 draw at the CAF Excellence Center in Mbankomo.

Fupkeh Zunedu and mates needed penalty shootouts to crown their efforts after the North had heled them to a draw after 90 minutes.

Soh Simplis team dominated their opponents in the ten teams competition that lasted from May 2-7, deserving of praises for both the performances and the results.

The team dominated by Options Sports of Bamenda players also backed home the best player, best scorer, best keeper and best coach award in addition to the 250 000 FCFA prize money.

The tournament reserved for amateur players on the books of regional and divisional championship clubs has been reawakened by the Samuel Eto’o led FECAFOOT after so many years without the event which use to be the melting point of budding amateur talents.

Vice champions North region received 150 000FCFA as prize money while third-placed East Region returned home with 100 000FCFA.

The over 200 footballers who competed in this edition of the tournament will be the priority picks for national U20 coaches during their next camp scheduled for a date to be announced.
