Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions have appointed three captains ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, as the coaching staff reshapes leadership within the squad following recent changes.
Goalkeeper Devis Epassy, defender Nouhou Tolo and forward Christian Bassogog have been handed shared captaincy responsibilities, with no fixed hierarchy confirmed ahead of the tournament.
In terms of experience, Bassogog stands out as the most decorated of the trio. The winger was a central figure in Cameroon’s AFCON triumph in 2017, where he finished as Most Valuable Player, and has since featured at AFCON 2019, AFCON 2021 and AFCON 2023. The Morocco finals will mark his fifth appearance at the continental showpiece.
Epassy and Nouhou also bring significant tournament know-how, having featured in recent AFCON editions, as Cameroon look to balance experience with renewed authority in the dressing room.
The decision reflects a move towards collective leadership as the Indomitable Lions seek to reassert themselves among Africa’s elite when the tournament kicks off later this month in Morocco.
