Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) of Limbe duo Arrey Jefta Oduak and Simo Gedeon have been included in Cameroon’s 20-man squad currently in Brazzaville for the 2024 Union of Central African Football Federation (UNIFFAC) zonal tournament that gets underway this Tuesday in the Congolese capital city.
According to the list published by the communications department of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) midfield duo Arrey and Simo who had a scintillating season with their Limbe-based club and reached the semi-final of the Cup of Cameroon have been rewarded for the form which they replicated in just over two weeks in the national team in Mbankomo.
The squad which includes Ning Che Bong Kadad of PWD and Mangwa II Jovial of Eclair of Sa’a as Goalkeepers plus five defenders defenders Kiah Emmanuel, Noumbissie Stéphane, Hamza Hamidou, Dawai Frederic and Ella Junior, who featured in the Cameroon team that won the Francophonie games earlier this year in Kinshasa.
In the midfield department, Simo and Jefta are joined by former U-17 Lions’ captain Noh Nafeng Yvan, Mabonki Etienne, Ajuah Jordan, Arsene Mekila plus captain Nathan Douala who was a part of the Cameroon squad at the last AFCON.
The attack-minded squad is completed by star forward Yondjo Matam Angel who scored ten goals in four warm-up matches. AS Fortuna star man Mfoumou Boris gets rewarded for his great season too, same situation about Eloundou Esounga, Nana Yvan and Evina Sorel plus Harouna Djibrine who featured at the last U-17 AFCON tournament in Algeria just like Yondjo.
Jefta, who sparkled in his debut campaign with ISOHSA of Limbe, scoring six goals and providing eight assists is expected to play a key role for coach Yvan Kenmoe’s home based squad in the five-nations tournament.
Simo’s debut campaign for the People’s Royal Elephants was highlighted by his 40 meter screamer to mount the comeback win against Dragon of Yaoundé in the regular phase of the season last December, plus outstanding performances against Panthere of Nde in Bangante amongst others.
The Cameroon Cubs will open their competition on September 24 against Central Africa Republic before clashing with Gabon two days later in the determiners of the teams to qualify for next year’s AFCON for the age category.
