    •  The FIFA rankings published this Thursday confirmed the Indomitable Lions’ have gained two positions, securing the ninth rank within Africa and 49th on a global scale
  • The June break witnessed saw Cameroon win two points from a possible six with a win against Cape Verde Islands and a draw against Angola

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have moved up two places in the latest FIFA rankings published this Thursday as a reflection of Nations performances from the time of the last publication.

This Thursday’s release saw the five-time African champions move up from the 51st position of last time out to position 49.

The latest movements happens barely weeks after the Indomitable Lions beat the Blue Sharks of Cabo Verde Islands by 4-1 in Yaoundé and played a 1-1 draw against the Palancas Negras of Angola to maintain their grip atop Pool C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The positive movement is certainly an indication of the quality of work done by coach Marc Brys and his players through the challenging circumstances.

Tracing back through the annals of FIFA rankings, Cameroon’s journey has been marked by significant fluctuations.

The team’s zenith was achieved on December 16, 2009, when they soared to the 11th position, a milestone that underscored their dominance in African football.

Conversely, the nadir came on March 14, 2013, as they dipped to the 79th spot, prompting a period of introspection and rebuilding.

Over the past decade, the Lions have clawed back , showcasing a gradual ascent from the 50th position in December 2020 to their current standing.

This climb is indicative of the strategic reforms and the infusion of new talent, which have revitalized the team’s international outlook.

Marc Brys and his team of both local and internationals, heralds a new chapter for Cameroon’s football ambitions.

The next rankings will be published in September this year.
