- This incident highlights systemic licensing problems within Cameroon football, affecting teams from the elite level down to divisional level
Kadji Sports Academy, has been subjected to a general forfeiture due to their absence from match days 5, 6, and 7 of the littoral regional league.
Despite being present for the first four match days, the academy was unable to field a sufficient number of licensed players, leading to the cancellation of their matches.
The Littoral Regional League’s Homologation and Discipline Committee has imposed a five-year suspension on the academy’s president, Gilbert Kadji, and levied a fine of 5 million FCFA against the club.
The committee’s decision, released on Tuesday, June 11, states that despite Kadji Sports Academy’s regular attendance in the early stages of the championship, their inability to present enough players halted the games.
Following a request by the club’s president on May 21, 2024, to suspend their matches until the issuance of additional licenses by FECAFOOT, the academy failed to appear for subsequent scheduled matches, leading to the forfeiture.
Kadji Sports Academy is celebrated for nurturing global football stars such as Samuel Eto’o, Carlos Kameni, Georges Mandjeck, Nicolas Nkoulou, and Eric Djemba Djemba, enhancing its status as a central African football powerhouse.
This season, the Cameroon Football Federation’s Licensing Commission has faced criticism for its handling of player licenses, affecting teams across all tiers of Cameroonian football.
Similar licensing issues have resulted in general forfeitures for approximately seven clubs in the South West Regional League. The situation underscores the need for improved administrative processes within the federation to prevent such disruptions in the future.
