In a significant overhaul of the Indomitable Lions’ coaching staff, Marc Brys has been officially announced as the new head coach.
The news was officially confirmed during the 8:30 p.m. newscast on the state media CRTV this Tuesday April 2,2024.
The 61-year-old is a Belgian football manager with a career spanning several clubs across Europe and Asia.
His coaching career began at Londerzeel and included successful periods at Berchem Sport, where he won the Belgian Third Division, and Germinal Beerschot, where he secured the Belgian Cup. His managerial journey also took him to clubs like KV Mechelen, Al-Faisaly FC, and OH Leuven
Brys is set to bring a wealth of experience from his recent tenure at OH Louvain in Belgium’s top division. His appointment by the Ministry of Sports is seen as a strategic move to bolster the team’s performance on the international stage.
Joining Brys are several key figures from the previous coaching regime, signaling a blend of continuity and new direction. François Omam-Biyik steps in as the first Assistant Coach, with Ashu Bessong as the second Assistant Coach .
The managerial team is rounded out by Danny Nounkeu as Team Manager, Christophe Manouvrier as Physical Trainer, Alioum Boukar handling the goalkeepers, and Germain Noël Essengue overseeing press relations.
In a parallel administrative shift, Benjamin Banlock, formerly the Secretary-General of Fecafoot and known for his strained relationship with Samuel Eto’o, has been appointed as the new coordinator of the national selections.
The sweeping changes comes in the wake of the non renewal of the contracts of the former staff, a decision driven by the need for a fresh approach to leadership and tactics.
Brys and his new staff’s immediate task will be Angola and Cape Verde in the world cup qualifiers in June.

His first deputy is Francois Omam Biyik
The former Cameroon international now aged 57, is back in the national team after a first stint between 2010-2011 and recently as deputy to Antonio Conceicao between 2019 & 2022.
He’s a coach who has a strong bond with the players.
The second deputy is Cyprian Ashu Besong.
Aged 54, Ashu Besong has previously coached at Leicester & was an assistant to Sven Goran.
He coached Cameroon’s U20 before going to lead South Sudan. Prior to his appointment, he was technical director of Djibouti’s national teams.
The goalkeeping coach is Alioum Boukar.
Like Omam, Alioum is returning for a third stint, having previously served under Hugo Broos, winning the 2017 AFCON & under Clarence Seedorf.
