Cameroon has taken a massive step towards progressing to the next phase of the 2024 U-20 Women’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers following their 2-0 win in the first-leg of their second round clash this Saturday in Douala.

Felicia Enganamben and Marie Louise Wehiong scored in each half as coach Hassan Ibrahim’s team outclassed their gritty visitors on the windy afternoon at the Bepanda Omnisport stadium.

Cameroon enjoyed a bright start of the encounter as captain Naomie Eto and Felicia caused a number of problems for their Motswana visitors.

Though Cameroon’s front line worked out a number of chances, they didn’t capitalize on the opportunities as they came.

Cameroon finally had their breakthrough just around the half hour mark when Eto picked Felicia in prime position on the edge of the area. The Awa Filles forward beat two defenders before dragging her shot past the keeper to put the hosts ahead.

Botswana had their moments to restore parity but poor finishing was their undoing as they struggled to put the ball past Cathy Biya of Éclair of Sa’a.

Felicia killed the game deep into the second segment when she doubled the advantage for Cameroon, pouncing on a loss ball around the six yard area.

The chances in the closing moments counted for wasted opportunities as Cameroon hanged on to pick up the 2-0 win ahead of the return game next weekend in Botswana.
