Calvin Toko’s decisive header in the second half has propelled Botafogo to the 2024 National Interpools.

The Littoral Regional Football League’s mini interpools final took place this Saturday July 27,at the Jean Ndokat Stadium in Japoma, Douala, featuring Espace Foot Horizon against Botafogo FC.

The midday kickoff saw Espace Foot Horizon dominate early proceedings, with Alexandre Seppo and his teammates creating multiple chances but failing to convert, leaving the first half scoreless.

Botafogo came out stronger in the second half, and in the 64th minute, Toko, positioned perfectly on the right, met a cross from the left with a powerful header to score the match’s only goal.

The stadium erupted as Botafogo fans celebrated the crucial breakthrough. Espace Foot Horizon responded with two quick chances, but Botafogo’s goalkeeper, Cedric Mongo, made crucial saves to preserve their lead.

The match concluded with a 1-0 victory for Botafogo. Cedric Mongo’s outstanding performance earned him the Man of the Match award and a jersey from Union Sportive. The keeper is rumored to be on Dynamo’s radar this season.

Botafogo finished the season as champions, with Espace Foot Horizon as runners-up and Caiman of Douala receiving the Fair Play Team award.

Jules Legrand Kebel, a 20-year-old sensation, claimed the top scorer title with 14 goals this season.

Louis Robert Bekek, the league president, expressed pride in the region’s representative and confidence in their potential to make history at this year’s promotion playoff against teams like Options Sports from Bamenda, Sporting of Maroua, and Union Sportive of Abong Mbang in Pool A.

Botafogo’s administration is optimistic and plans to use the available time to prepare for the upcoming competition.

Espace Foot Horizon, however, voiced their dissatisfaction with the choice of Jean Ndokat Stadium for such a crucial match. The club’s administration argued that the open pitch close to fans was inappropriate and claimed that the conceded goal resulted from fan intimidation.

They also questioned the value of the trophy, highlighting the challenges clubs face throughout the season and the lack of substantial rewards.
