With a new coach Lamia Boumedhi aiming to take TP Mazembe back to the finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League and a Hurricane Filles side well placed to challenge, the lady Ravens face a real test when their title defence begins this Friday.
UNIFFAC champions TP Mazembe launch their 2022 title defence against host Hurricanes Ladies today, looking to prove last year’s result wasn’t a fluke as they aim to reassert their dominance on the zonal scene.
Coach Boumedhi’s team won the Congolese League last season to return to the three-clubs UNIFFAC zonal tournament.
The addition of the former Morocco U-17, U-20 and national team coach is a huge improvement for the Congolese side.
Despite the handicap of losing some linchpins, first impressions from their additions have been positive as they have quickly settled in and look set to battle for the title again.
On their part, Hurricane have shown enough this season to suggest TP Mazembe will not have it all their own way. Seeing off good competition to win the Equatorial Guinea championship and reach the zonal finals is already a feat.
Hurricane have also been busy in the transfer market bringing in good players. Hence, big things are expected again.
Hurricane can steal a march on the defending champions and set down a marker when they kick off their campaign at home this Friday.
It promises to be a tough one for both sides this Friday afternoon at the Estadio Nacional de Malabo. The game will kick-off at 3PM local time at the 30000 capacity structure.
