The Executive chairman, Edo state Sports Commission Olympian Yussuf Alli and the chief of staff to the Edo state Governor Dr Osaigbovo Iyoha have congratulated Nigeria’s Women Premier League Champions Edo Queens Football Club on their 5-0 thrashing of AS Garde of the Republic of Niger in the CAF Champions League qualifiers game on Sunday in far away Cote D’Ivoire.
The Edo Sports Commission boss and the sports loving chief of staff,in their separate reactions to the scintillating performance of the Nigeria’s representatives, said they were impressed with the result the girls posted on their first outing.
” It was an impressive performance by our girls on Sunday evening at the CAF Champions League qualifiers in Cote D’Ivoire. I’m really proud of them. I want to encourage them to remain focused and avoid distractions because we still have many rivers to cross.
“The girls have made us proud. This is happening for the first time in the history of Edo state that Edo Queens won the Nigeria women premier league title and now also winning their first match in the CAF Champions league qualifies in Cote D’Ivoire. Girls, go further and conquer. We are proud of you and rewards await you,” Alli said.
While also reacting to the Edo Queens victory, the Chief of staff to the Governor Dr Osaigbovo Iyoha described the result as mouthwatering and overwhelming.
“We are all happy that the girls are reciprocating Edo state Government’s kind gesture and huge investment in the team. It is our prayers that they get the qualification to the next level. I congratulate our team and wish them the best of luck in their remaining matches, ” Iyoha said.
Edo Queens lead group B with 3 points and a five goals advantage and will take on Hassacas Ladies in match day two on Wednesday, August 14 at the same stadium.
