- The 34th edition of the AFCON will run from January 13 to February 11
- CAF has restored the age-old 23 players per national team option
- All countries must have submitted their squad on or before midnight of January 3, 2024
- The draw for the tournament will be held in Abidjan on 12 October 2023.
- The 24 teams will be drawn into six groups of four.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have picked January 3, 2024 as the last date for submission of national team squads for the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte D’Ivoire.
According to a release sent to the 24 participating member Associations, CAF expects a provisional squad of 55 players before the turn of the year.
CAF has told the 24 nations they will only accommodate a squad of 23 players though teams were allowed to have more than 23 players during the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The final squads submitted ten days to the tournament will allow CAF time to carry out Media and marketing activities with the squad before the January 13 kick-off.
Nations are expected to pick three goalkeepers and 20 outfit players for the 34th edition of the African soccer frenzy.
Players availability for the tournament has always been a subject of huge scrutiny as especially English Premier League clubs are reluctant to let their players travel back home to honor their nations call out of a FIFA international break.
Over 30 English Premier League players are expected to be named in AFCON squads for the 24-nations tournament.
