CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has praised Morocco’s Under-20 national team for their historic run to the FIFA U20 World Cup final in Chile, describing them as a “source of pride for the entire African continent.”
The North African side have dazzled at the tournament, defeating traditional powerhouses Spain, Brazil, South Korea, and the United States on their way to the final. Their journey has been marked by resilience, tactical discipline, and attacking flair — qualities that have captivated fans across Africa and beyond.
It marks the first time in over a decade that an African team has reached the final of the competition, fuelling growing hopes that Morocco could become the continent’s first-ever champions at this level.
In a statement released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Motsepe expressed deep admiration and encouragement for the young Atlas Lions, highlighting their symbolic role as ambassadors for Africa.
“On behalf of the 54 countries on the African continent, we are very proud of the Moroccan Under-20 national team that’s playing in Chile, representing the people of Morocco and representing the whole of the African continent,” said Motsepe.
“We wish you all of the best. You’ve made us so proud, and we are confident that you will do exceptionally well. May Allah be with you, and we are confident that you will succeed.”
The CAF President’s message comes as Morocco prepare for what could be a defining moment in African football. Their run reflects the growing strength of youth development structures across the continent, a key priority for CAF’s long-term strategy.
Motsepe has repeatedly emphasized his belief that African nations can compete and triumph at every level of world football — a vision increasingly being realized through the continent’s emerging stars.
As the young Atlas Lions prepare for the final, they do so with the hopes of an entire continent — and the full backing of African football’s leadership.
