Ghanaian import Paul Acquah scored three goals as Nigerian Champions, Rivers United defeated DC Motema Pembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 3-1 in match day four of the 2022/2023 CAF Champions League on Thursday.
The match which was initially slated to kick off on Wednesday was shifted to Thursday as a result of the failure of the Congolese side to arrive in Nigeria for the encounter.
Acquah scored the first goal of the match in the additional minutes of the first half at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
He doubled his side’s lead 11 minutes into the second half.
When it seemed that the Port Harcourt-based side are coasting home away from home, Kingu Yallet pulled a goal back for the visitors.
Acquah once again restored Stanley Eguma’s two-goal lead with his third goal of the match in the additional minutes of the second half.
Rivers United retained the top of Group B with nine points ahead of Asec Mimosa (7 points), and Diables Noirs (4 points), while Motema Pembe occupy the basement of the group.
