Buea Town Blazers Blaze the Trail in Ongoing TLH Basketball Challenge

The Town of Legendary Hospitality Area Basketball Challenge (TLHABC) has set Buea’s sporting scene alight, with Buea Town Blazers dominating the court and maintaining an unbeaten record in the regional tournament.

The competition, which tipped off on November 1, 2025, at the Regional Multipurpose Youth Empowerment Centre in Buea Town, has drawn eight spirited teams from across the South West Region eager to rekindle passion for the game.

Organised by the South West Regional League of Basketball under the leadership of Coach Ifose Emile Mbella, the challenge seeks to use basketball as a tool for educational orientation, national integration, social inclusion, economic empowerment, responsible youth behaviour, and healthy living.

The tournament has been described as a revival effort for grassroots basketball in a region traditionally known for its football culture.

After four match days, Buea Town Blazers continue to set the pace with four wins out of four, tallying 287 points scored against only 94 conceded. Their flawless record gives them eight points, putting them at the top of the table.

Mayor’s Street, also boasting four wins, sit in second position on goal difference, while Tiko Monsters, having played a game less, follow closely in third with six points.

The mid-table is tightly contested, with Over Side Ndongo, Bonduma Gems and Crew, and UB Junction all tied on five points, while Bokwaongo Giants and Sandpit/Muea/Mile 16, 17 and 18 occupy the bottom places.

Matchday Four, played on Sunday, November 9, produced thrilling moments. Tiko Monsters outplayed Bonduma Gems and Crew 20–10, while Over Side Ndongo crushed Sandpit/Muea/Mile 16, 17 and 18 31–9. Mayor’s Street extended their winning streak with a 43–32 victory over Bokwaongo Giants, and Buea Town Blazers powered past UB Junction with a resounding 95–26 win.

Each Matchday also features the Honoratus Meh Top Performer Award (MVP), recognising outstanding players. Notable winners so far include Etarock Boris (Bokwaongo Giants), Oben Eyong (Tiko Monsters), Fotso Jordan (Mayor’s Street), Fopa Jules (Buea Town Blazers), Ewane Kome (Over Side Ndongo), and Brice Enow (Buea Town Blazers).

In the meantime, for the Town of Friendship Area Basketball Challenge, Down Beach leads the classification table with six points after three games played. The side is followed by Mile 1-4 with 6 points. Third on the log is Issokolo with five points, and fourth is New Town with five points. Cite SONARA occupies sixth position with three points.

Matchday five of the Town of Legendary Hospitality Area Basketball Challenge comes up on Saturday, November 15, with Mayor’s Street v Over Side Ndongo; Sandpit/Muea/Mile 16, Mile 17, and Mile 18 v Bonduma Gems and Crew; Buea Town Blazers v Tiko Monsters and Bokwaongo Giants v UB Junction.

For Matchday 6 on Sunday, November 16, Sandpit/Muea/Mile 16, Mile 17, and Mile 18 will face UB Junction; Buea Town Blazers v Over Side Ndongo; Mayor’s Street v Tiko Monsters and Bokwaongo Giants v Bonduma Gems and Crew.

Both regional challenges, the Town of Legendary Hospitality Area Basketball Challenge (TLHABC) and the Town of Friendship Area Basketball Challenge (TFABC), are expected to wrap up by the end of November, with the TLHABC final scheduled for November 30 in Buea.
