PWD of Bamenda have beaten Stade Bandjoun FC by 2-1 to reach the second final of the cup of Cameroon for the second time in three seasons.
Former Options Sports Academy of Limbe forward Junior Tangko and Leonel Ateba Christian Mbida were the scorers for the Abakwa Boys while Suarez Pangchou got the lone goal for the industrious West outfit who fell short this Saturday in front of a packed crowd at the Bepanda Omnisport Annex stadium in Douala.
Coach Roger Constantine’s PWD dominated the opening moments of the game, and were rewarded after just 12 minutes.
Tangko pounced on a poor outing from former Racing Bafoussam goalkeeper Ekolle Alain of Stade Bandjoun FC to put the Abakwa Boys ahead.
Suarez quickly leveled for Stade Bandjoun FC for the ‘giant killers’ pouncing on an error from goalkeeper Karim Bello of PWD.
Boths sides settled into the contest as it remained 1-1 till the interval.
Bandjoun finished were slightly better in the first segment, though the best chances fell to PWD.
Ateba restored PWD’s advantage at the 60th minute.
The striker converted from the spot after Referee Bito Jeanot awarded a penalty following the deflection of James Tendoh’s effort with the use of the hand.
Ateba could have doubled the advantage just after but his close range header went narrowly wide.
Nyame Rodrique’s fine set-piece three minutes from time was pushed away by Bello who was commanding throughout the second segment.
Despite the late push to get the equalizer, PWD held on to win it and reach another cup final in a season that has been beater sweet to say the least.
