Former Cameroon international Bill Tchato Mbiayi Jackson says poor preparations prevented Cameroon from getting maximum points against the Warriors of Zimbabwe on Tuesday in Kampala in their match day 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier outing.

According to the former team manager and General Coordinator of the Cameroon national team, events in the build up to the game didn’t help the team’s desire to win and again highlighted the basics of the football.

“Football doesn’t lie,” the 2002 AFCON winner stated before adding; “Zimbabwe was within our reach. We saw everything that happened. You cannot prepare well and hope to play a good match.”

Cameroon arrived in Uganda on Saturday after their 1-0 win over Namibia, but have not had any training sessions in the past 48 hours. The team had planned a training session on Sunday upon arrival and another on Monday at noon at the Mandela National Stadium.

However, due to the Uganda vs Congo match, Monday’s session was moved to 5pm at the Kampala International School.

But the team’s late arrival due to a three-hour traffic jam meant they couldn’t make it to the new training site in time. “The Lions couldn’t make it to the new training site on time due to a three-hour traffic jam,” said Cyrille Tollo, an advisor to the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.

Not only was the training session canceled, but the usual pre-match press conference was also not organized.

As if that wasn’t enough, Cameroon coach Marc Brys will had to make do without his assistant Joachim Mununga, who was not registered by the Cameroon Football Federation. Brys was accompanied by the FECAFOOT-appointed staff of Martin Ndtoungou Mpile, David Pagou, Idriss Carlos Kameni, Christophe Manouvrier, Patrick Joël Fotso, and Elias Kaleguem Fomekong.

Despite the challenges, Cameroon fashion out chances of their own too but Zimbabwe were equal to the task and ground out a thoroughly deserved point in their second 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon at Mandela Stadium.

The crash-program Morocco 2025 campaign resumes next month with Zimbabwe taking on Namibia in back-to-back clashes while Kenya and Cameroon will battle each other twice as well.
