The Berea of Madagascar have received a significant boost ahead of their crucial TotalEnergies quarter-final clash against Kenya, thanks to the return of their star player, Andriamirado “Dax” Andrianarimanana, from injury.

DAX, the skipper and long time servant of the team, has been an integral part of the Malagasy rise to football prominence, taking part in the 2019 TotalEnergies AFCON, a year after winning the 2018 COSAFA cup, emerging as player of the tournament.

He has earned multiple caps for the national team (7 in the CHAN) in the span of two editions, which includes a bronze medal run in 2022.

After being substituted at half time during the match against the Central African Republic due to a sprain, Andriamirado was ruled out of the subsequent game against Burkina Faso.

Dax who missed the 2-1 win that sealed qualification to the quarter-final last Saturday trained with the rest of the squad on Monday at the Amaan stadium Annex in Zanzibar though with a slightly bandaged knee.

Information from the Malagasy camp have it that he will play a part against Kenya on Friday.

Coach Romuald Rakotondrabe heavily depends on the 34-year-old former Kaiser Chief man’s creativity in the middle of the park, to find pockets of space.

With Dax back in the lineup, Madagascar looks set to take on the difficult task of inflicting a first defeat on co-hosts Kenya. His return could be a game-changer for Madagascar’s campaign.

Kenya, meanwhile, finished atop group A with 10 points after a near-perfect group run in their debut.

The Harambee Stars guided by Benni McCarthy take on Madagascar at the MISC Kasarani stadium on Friday, with both teams having a shot at one semifinal spot.
