Vincent Aboubakar scored in Besiktas’ 2-1 win over Neftçi PFK and dedicated the goal to Algerian teammate, Rachid Ghezzal whose mother-in-law and son were involved in an accident in France.
Ghezall who is on Loan to Besiktas from Leicester City, did not participate in the club’s game this Thursday, as he is presently in France taking care of the victims after the news of their involvement in a road accident two days ago.
“We learned with great sadness that the son and mother-in-law of our footballer Ghezzal had a road accident in France. Ghezzal went to France to follow the treatment of his son and his mother-in-law, whose vital prognosis is not engaged. We wish a speedy recovery to Rachid Ghezzal’s son and mother-in-law.
“the club announced on its twitter handle.
Aboubakar showed his love and support to the Algerian winger with his goal that contributed in earning Besiktas the win.
The Indomitable Lion of Cameroon’s captain, scored the equalizer at the 57th to give Besiktas hopes of grabbing at least a point, before Muleka scored the winning goal 19 minutes to the end of the game.
The game counted for the third qualifying round, second leg encounter of the Europa Conference league. Aboubakar’s side win 5-2 on aggregate.
Aboubakar has now scored three goals in their last five games. He has been teammates with Ghazell since 2021 at Besiktas and both forward and winger have partnered on several occasions to earn a win for the club either by scoring or assisting each other.
To say they are very close, is not certain but for sure, this act from Aboubakar comes to preach love, solidarity and peace at a time when Cameroon and Algeria(national teams) almost went into a fued after the latter was denied a chance of making it to the 2022 FIFA World Cup by Cameroon and they blamed it on Match fixing.
However, this is a good gesture to emulate and a sign of relieve for Ghezall who recieves the tribute while helping his family go through their recovery process.
