The battle for gold medal, in the women’s basketball, at the ninth edition of the Francophonie games, will be between Cameroon and Senegal.
Scheduled to be played at the Stades des Martyrs, On Saturday, August 05, 2023,both sides have been nothing short of exceptional since the start of this competition last Thursday, July 27, 2023.
Cameroon had a clean group outing. Logged in a two country pool, the team surmounted one of the finest sides, Tunisia 61-52 in group C’s curtain raiser, and Madagascar 70-66 on Day two, to book a clash with Benin in the quarter finals.
Captain Josiane Tcheumeleu accounted for 18 points, coupled with brilliant performances by Damaris Phalonne, and Myriam Eliora Nilie, enough to see the team clear off the inexperienced Amazons of Benin.
Against Lebanon, the competition was stiff for coach Tsafack Ange Majolie’s side. Known to be quick on the ball, smooth with their passes, The Lebanese kept the lionesses on their toes. Salomé Bertille Bella’s 18 points obtained were pivotal in their 69-58 win.
Against an experienced and talented Senegalese side, the competition promises to be even more stiff.
The Teranga lionesses Topped Group B, after defeating Benin 92-29, profiting off Haiti’s forfeiture (00-20), stamping their authority with an emphatic 95-18 win over Congo in the last group game.
A win over Romania and Madagascar in the quarter and semi-finals , propelled Senegal closer to the ultimate prize to be decided on Saturday.
Saturday, will also see Lebanon play Madagascar for the bronze medal.

Congo vs. Romania 7-8 classification game.
Benin vs. DR Congo 5-6 classification game.
