Incoming Napoli manager, Antonio Conte has told Italian media that André-Frank Zambo Anguissa is amongst a number of players he has informed the club’s hierarchy will serve as the pillar of his project in the next three years.

The Italian made the revelation on Wednesday as he was presented at the Royal Palace three weeks after he agreed to join the 2023 Italian champions.

Conte who faced Zambo, then of Fulham while he was at Chelsea says he wants to build a team around a small group that includes the 28-year-old Cameroon international.

“I have placed a total veto for Di Lorenzo, [Stanislav] Lobotka, [André-Frank] Zambo Anguissa and Kvaratskhelia,” he revealed.

Though there has been interest on Kvaratskhelia from PSG, keeping the best players was the first item that Conte discussed with Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis.

“Before talking about contractual and other aspects I wanted only one reassurance from the president, which is that I would decide who will stay and who will go,” Conte said. “I was very categorical. Because if we talk about revenge and rebuilding and then we let our best players go, then it’s all counterproductive.”

The assurance from the manager is a crucial aspect for Anguissa in the new era.

The presser also provided a hint of the departure of Victor Osihmen and the possible arrival of Romelu Lukaku who played under Conte at Inter Milan and did so well.

The transfer in and departures will be a priority in the days ahead as the club rebuilds for a new era hoping to reignite the fire of the city after a disappointing last season that culminated in them missing out on continental football.

Napoli will discover their Serie A schedule for 2024/25 on 4 July when the Serie A managing body releases the fixtures for the season.
