ASFAR FC of Morocco emerged as Champions of the second edition of CAF Women’s Champions League with a 4-0 bashing of 2022 Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies of South Africa.

The defeat ended the Hollywoodbet Super League Champions’ unbeaten streak in the competition.

Cameroon goalkeeper, Ange Gabrielle Bawou who was part of Bayelsa Queens of Nigeria’s bronze-winning team believed the introduction of the CAF Women’s Champions League has given women’s football a professional transformation.

“I think African women’s football is undergoing a professional transformation, to say that the injection of the African Champions League has had a positive impact on the culture of clubs in football,” Bawou told www.kick442.com.

The Indomitable Lionesses first choice goalkeeper was ever-present for Bayelsa Queens as her side became the first Nigeria club to make it out of the group stage of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Yenegoa-based side also made history by winning a bronze medal during its debut CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.

She added: “Everyone would like to participate in this prestigious African competition which implies that the level of the championships will be raised in all the countries and each meeting that we will have played will be of the top level. No match will be more neglected and especially when we play a champion.”

The NWFL Premiership Champions with the Prosperity Girls kept three clean sheets in five games to guide her team to a podium finish in Morocco.

Bawou and Bayelsa Queens will hope to return to the continent as the NWFL Premiership for the 2022/2023 season kicks off on Wednesday.

A league title for Bayelsa Queens will begin the road towards another participation at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.

ASFAR FC (Morocco), Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa), and Wadi Degla (Egypt) are the three teams that have participated in the first two editions of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
