Andre Onana- “The most important is the qualification”

Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana says the most important from their dramatic UEFA Champions League tie against Benfica was to advance to the next round of the competition.

The Narrazuri sacrificed a lead on a number of ocassions on Wednesday night, but did enough to progress from the tie that produced eight goals and Onana only retains qualification for the semi-final against everlasting rivals AC Milan.

What looked like a comfortable second-leg home win for the 2010 champions who returned to Milan with a 2-0 advantage from last week turned out to be a more close contest as Benfica scored twice after the 85th minute mark.

“It’s true we were exposed in the final moments. Unfortunately even with all the efforts we can’t catch a goal but the most important today was qualification. We worked hard to earn this deserved qualification,” Onana told reporters after the game as he became the first Cameroonian goalkeeper to reach the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League, four years after he played the final of the Europa League.

Inter will now face bitter rivals AC Milan in the last four in what promises to be a mouthwatering affair.

Though Onana didn’t have his best night – conceding three goals in a single game for the first time in this season’s competition, his saves in both ties are as important as the goals that took them through.
